I actually got an OMD!

So I couldn’t resist any longer and needed to acquire an OMD.  After calling about 20 stores across the nation, I finally got lucky one night and noticed Adorama had a black kit in stock.  Immediately I ordered and a few days later it arrived.  I’ve only had it a few days so far, but from using it this limited time, I think I can safely say that micro 4/3’s has finally come of age.

Here are a few shots from camping this past weekend of my friends dog jumping from a dock chasing a rubber duck.  The speed of the autofocus and the 9 frames per second really let me capture what I wanted.

The only E-M5 I could find was the black body that came with the 12-50mm kit lens.  I at first was hoping to find a body only because I wasn’t impressed with the specs of the 12-50mm.  The aperture goes from 3.5 to 6.3 at the long end, so it’s a rather slow lens.  It does have an interesting ‘macro’ ability that gives you pretty good close up performance.  Here is a very quick, natural light hand held shot of some leaves in the morning.

After using this lens for a few days outside during the day, I’m glad I ended up getting it.  It has a solid zoom range, quick autofocus and is weather sealed along with the E-M5, so no fear of the elements.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the camera.  It feels as fast as my prior Nikon DSLR’s, but in a much smaller and compact size.  The image quality seems to be a bit better than my Panasonic G3 and is especially noticeable in the dynamic range.  The camera is a big win so far.  The only downside is the price.  It is quite expensive considering you can get a mid-level DSLR for about the same price.  You really do have to pay for the compact size and premium construction, but it’s a price I think is worth it.
