First Images with the new Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens

X-T5, Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 @ 1/6, f/2.8, ISO 320

Having a small standard zoom that has a bright f/2.8 aperture throughout is a very nice to have, so I ordered the newly released Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 for Fuji X mount.  After a few days with it and a variety of shooting, I think it’s a great option for Fujifilm shooters.

Enter the Fujifilm X-T5

The urge to upgrade to the newly released Fujifilm X-T5 was strong and was solidified by fighting with the autofocus system of my old (hint hint) X-Pro3 in a dimly lit gym trying to keep track of my daughter doing her gymnastics routine.  After that night of struggling with the focus and the camera just getting in my way, I made a rash decision to sell the X-Pro3 and try to find an X-T5 in stock somewhere.  Lo and behold, within 30 minutes of listing the X-Pro3 kit for sale it sold and I managed to find an in stock silver X-T5 that arrived 2 days later.

Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2 Nokton X Initial Impressions

This weekend was spent camping and for the majority of the time, I had the new Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2 Nokton mounted to my X-Pro3.  I picked up a like-new used copy of this lens from CameraQuest (spoke with owner, who was knowledgeable and shipped super fast) and since I unboxed it, hasn’t left my camera.  This is the 2nd lens from Voigtlander that has full electronic communication with certain Fuji cameras which greatly helps in its use.  With an X-Pro3, that means that as you change focus, the framelines in the OVF move to correct for parallax and aperture value is displayed.

Not Enough Posting

With the craziness that 2020 was behind us, I’m trying to find time to get back into my photography hobby.  While I never let the camera sit too long on the shelf, the majority of reaching for it has been for family shots only.  The times I have managed to get out have been fewer, but still needed.

Now that 2021 is here, I thought I’d start off the year right with the return of an old friend.  A few years ago, I made the mistake of selling off my Fuji X kit to move to Sony.  Exactly 1 year later, I swiftly moved back to Fuji because the Sony just didn’t feel right.  Last week, I finally came full circle by picking up an X-Pro3 to replace my beloved X-Pro2.

The color is the Dura Silver finish and I love it.  This camera just makes me want to get out and shoot.  Everything about it is so intuitive and simple.  The new optical and electronic viewfinder is better than the X-Pro2 model in both resolution and overall size.  It does not have the dual magnification like the X-Pro2, but I haven’t found myself missing that yet as my main lenses, the 23mm, 35mm and a 56mm all work quite well with it.  I went out for my first short hike with it this afternoon in below freezing temperatures and couldn’t have been happier with it.

It took me 2 years of mistakes and learning, but I finally came back to where I should have been all along.
