The first camping trip of the season

This weekend was spectacular for camping, cool at night and warm during the day with a nice breeze.  All day the sun shone and the blue sky was dotted with just a few clouds.  We spent both days outside running and playing and I even was able to frame a few shots.  All in all, a wonderful weekend and a great first camping trip of the year.

Exploratory hiking at Ohiopyle

Spring is finally here and the temperatures were doing a fine job of rising.  Until the weekend of course, when the temps dropped over 20 degrees overnight and frosted the windshield of my car.  I gathered up a backpack full of water, energy bars and camera gear and headed out anyway.  Having all morning to myself, I decided to hike some trails at Ohiopyle that I haven’t been on before.  It was a nice 7+ mile hike that let me scope out the trails and see if there was anything that would be bring me back later in the season for a closer look.  The light was a bit harsh, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the foliage wasn’t quite blooming yet.  Regardless, it was still a great time.  Here are a few of the shots I managed.

Focusing on the details

It’s the beginning of July and the temperature was hovering around 100 degrees today.  Leaving the centrally air conditioned house is getting tougher, as a wall of moist heat slams into you as you step out the front door.  I didn’t let this deter me from heading up to Ohiopyle to get some mountain biking and photography in.  The biking went as well as can be expected since it was my first time on the mountain this year.  I did some new trails, had a blast and didn’t seriously injure myself, so that’s a win.

Finishing that, I decided to hike around Ohiopyle and see if any shots jumped out to me.  Since it was midday at this point, the light was rather harsh and the humid air was hazing everything up.  So I decided to forgo the landscape type shot and focus on some details.  Namely, a group of kayakers going over the main falls.  I tried to really zoom in and freeze the action.  Here are some of my favorites.

Ohiopyle is such a fun place to visit, you just never know what you might see.
