My family and I just have just returned from an extra long weekend at Babcock State Park in West Virginia. The park is beautiful and home to the often photographed Cedar Creek Grist Mill. Trying to get an original image of the mill is nigh impossible at this point, but I took a few that I like, and for me, that is all that matters.
Other places we ventured too included Hawk’s Nest State Park, the New River Gorge Bridge, Cathedral Falls near Gauley Bridge and Plum Orchard Lake. West Virginia is a fantastic state for sight seeing and exploring. It seemed like everywhere we went, the landscaped was so impressive. I easily could have spent so much more time hiking around, but alas, I have to get back to my real job.
This past weekend, my family and I camped alongside the Yough River. We rode bikes on the bike trail, got in the kayaks and just had a great time the whole weekend.
This evening turned out to be surprisingly uneventful for me so I took advantage of it and tossed a kayak on the roof of my truck, packed a drybag of camera gear and headed out to a local lake for a quick paddle.
The quick trip around the lake was such a relaxing and calming time. There were some fishermen out on various small boats, but the lake was very quiet. Most of the noise was simply the water lapping at the bow and the wind whistling over the water. The cloudy skies hampered any chance of a nice sunset shot, but it all worked out in the end.
After spending 5 nights in Austin, my wife and I are back at home. The city was great and we loved exploring it. Hopefully if we make it back it won’t be raining daily and things won’t be flooded.
