Exploratory hiking at Ohiopyle

Spring is finally here and the temperatures were doing a fine job of rising.  Until the weekend of course, when the temps dropped over 20 degrees overnight and frosted the windshield of my car.  I gathered up a backpack full of water, energy bars and camera gear and headed out anyway.  Having all morning to myself, I decided to hike some trails at Ohiopyle that I haven’t been on before.  It was a nice 7+ mile hike that let me scope out the trails and see if there was anything that would be bring me back later in the season for a closer look.  The light was a bit harsh, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the foliage wasn’t quite blooming yet.  Regardless, it was still a great time.  Here are a few of the shots I managed.

A sunny day winter hike

We are finally getting a fair amount of snow to go along with the bitterly cold weather.  In the past few days, about 4-6 inches of snow has dropped.  Fresh snow combined with a beautiful sunny day is just what I hoped for, so I packed a camera bag set off to one of my favorite places to hike, Ohiopyle State Park.  My first stop of the day was Cucumber Falls followed by a quick walk around the natural waterslides and then the main park area.

The weekend in pictures

Once again, it is late Sunday night and I am watching a football game and updating my blog.  The weekend was great, just too short as always.  Below are some examples of what we saw followed by a few portraits I did for friends.

Now for the portraits.  We ventured out to West Overton village and found some nice spots for pictures.  This was my first time doing portraits here and I was pleasantly surprised.  I hope to go back.

That’s it for now.  Until next time.
